Rules Regarding The Use of Spares

A skip whose team is shorthanded MUST use a spare if one has arrived and is available under the rules of the spare book. Skip’s if you are a player short please make sure that no spares are sitting in the lounge without a game! IF YOU COMPLETE A GAME WITH THREE PLAYERS AND A SPARE HAS GONE WITHOUT A GAME YOU DEFAULT YOUR GAME!

The spare may play any position except skip as long as no regular player is demoted.
No spare is to be prearranged two weeks in a row unless under executive approval.
It is imperative that prearranged spares be entered in the spare book.
If a skip requires a spare and one is not prearranged the skip must enter his name in the spare book in the first blank space available when he arrives at the club or as soon as he knows a spare is needed. Please make yourself known to the spare whose name appears opposite yours as soon as possible. [Only a member of the team concerned is to enter their name in the book.] YOU CANNOT HAVE THE SAME SPARE TWO WEEKS IN A ROW PREARRANGED OR NOT! IF BY COINCIDENCE THE SAME SPARE SIGNS UP FOR YOU 2 WEEKS IN A ROW YOU MUST SWITCH SPARES WITH ANOTHER TEAM. EXCEPTION: YOU NEED A SPARE AND THE ONLY SPARE AVAILABLE, PLAYED FOR YOU THE WEEK PRIOR. VIOLATION WILL RESULT IN A DEFAULT.
If spares arrive at the club without a prearranged game they are to enter their name in the spare book in the first blank space available. The skip whose name appears opposite is the team you will play with. The skip should make himself known to you before game time.
It has been customary but not mandatory that teams with four players including a spare give up that spare if there is a team in danger of defaulting. That decision is up to the skip and the spare involved.
